A Lily Pad Pond Brought to Life

For July 2026, GCGA proudly honors Alanna Sassi as our Groom of the Month! With no set theme for this month, Alanna drew inspiration from the beauty of a lily pad pond, transforming her poodle canvas into a whimsical little ecosystem filled with color, texture, and movement.

At first glance, the groom feels like a pond brought to life. The vibrant shades of green, pink, blue, and purple come together to recreate the lush, colorful beauty found around the water’s edge. The bright green forms evoke lily pads and foliage, while the vivid blue body creates the feeling of cool, shimmering water flowing through the design.

One of the most charming details is the tiny frog perched on a lily pad along the back. This playful addition brings the pond scene to life and gives the groom a wonderful sense of storytelling. It feels as though a little snapshot of a peaceful pond has been captured and sculpted directly into the groom.

The tail, transformed into a dragonfly, is another spectacular feature. Its delicate, airy wings create the illusion that the dragonfly is hovering just above the surface of the water. This clever use of shape and dimension adds movement to the design and makes the dragonfly feel almost weightless.

Alanna also incorporated textured curls to represent the soft moss growing along the water’s edge. The carefully sculpted texture adds depth and a natural quality to the piece, helping connect the different elements of the pond-inspired design. Rather than simply using color to tell the story, Alanna used texture, silhouette, and sculptural details to create an entire environment.

What makes this groom so special is the way every detail contributes to the overall scene. The lily pads, frog, dragonfly, water-inspired colors, and mossy textures work together to create a cohesive little world. It is playful and imaginative while still showcasing an incredible level of technical skill and attention to detail.
